Expert Tree Planting in Barrington, IL

Tree planting in Barrington Hills requires more than digging a hole. Properties here sit on glacial till deposits and heavy Drummer silty clay loam soils that drain poorly and can suffocate roots when planting depth is off. We assess each site before any tree goes in the ground. That means checking soil conditions, sun and shade patterns, proximity to underground utilities, and mature canopy spread. We then select species suited to northern Illinois hardiness zones and your specific lot. Proper hole sizing, root collar placement, and post-planting mulch rings give each tree the best start. Barrington Hills lots are large, and many border conservation corridors near Spring Creek Valley or the Cook County Forest Preserve. That context shapes which species we recommend and where we place them. Whether you want shade coverage, a windbreak along an open field, or a privacy screen, we plant with the full-grown tree in mind. Contact Russel Lokun Landscape and Design to schedule a site visit.

Tree Planting FAQ

Common questions about tree planting in Barrington, IL.

Yes, we plant in clay-heavy soils throughout Barrington Hills by preparing the site correctly and selecting species that tolerate those conditions. Proper hole sizing and root collar depth are critical steps we follow on every job.

We evaluate your specific site conditions, including soil type, drainage, sun exposure, and lot size, before recommending any species. Barrington Hills falls in USDA hardiness zones 5b to 6a, which guides which trees will perform well long-term.

Yes, utility location is part of our site review before any digging begins on a Barrington Hills property. Illinois state law requires utility marking prior to any ground excavation.

Yes, we select species appropriate for properties that border forest preserves or wetland corridors in Barrington Hills. We choose trees that complement those natural areas without introducing invasive or incompatible species.

We apply a mulch ring around the base to retain moisture, regulate soil temperature, and reduce competition from grass. This step is especially important during Barrington Hills summers when dry spells can stress newly planted trees.

Yes, we plant on sloped terrain and factor in erosion control when selecting placement and species. Properties near the Fox River corridor in Barrington Hills often benefit from deep-rooted trees that anchor soil on grades.

I met with two other companies before hiring Russel to replace my 80+ year old concrete patio and walkways with pavers. Very straight forward with his approach and helpful with suggestions and options, his pricing was very competitive and fair compared to the other quotes I got and the craftsmanship exceeded my expectations. His crew was top notch with no chaos or bs. Definitely recommend this company and will be calling them for any future projects

I couldn’t be more pleased! Russel looked over the patio area and quickly evaluated what needed to be done. His staff began the task of demolition and within 3 days the task was accomplished. Russel is very knowledgeable and has a respectful staff and so easy to work with. I highly recommend him!

Our courtyard was an overgrown mess when we bought the house. Now it is a lovely area perfect for enjoying the outdoors with worry-free pavers installed by Russ Lokun. Russ assisted us with helpful design and paver brick ideas. His crew showed up on time, cleared away all remnants of the old courtyard and installed a brand new one -- including an heated pathway to melt the snow. (We have not had snow to test the mat's effectiveness yet.) Russ was recommended by our new neighbors and we have no reason to regret our choice. Russ is a pleasant fellow to deal with and his crew is friendly and professional. A small hands-on business that does an exceptional job start to final inspection.

Russel designed and installed a paver patio for us. We are happy with the end results and overall look of the patio. Russel also planted trees to several spots in the backyard to enhance our landscape. Overall we are happy with the work and will hire Russel for future landscape design projects:
